Becoming a Christ Follower
Becoming a Christ-follower is a lifelong process, which begins with belief (or faith), is sealed by baptism, and continues toward being remade in the image of Christ. At New Day Christian Church, we encourage people to believe, repent, confess, and be immersed.
Belief and Faith
The meaning of belief, as it relates to establishing a relationship with Jesus, is to be "firmly persuaded" as to something. Belief is the bedrock of a life set towards following Christ. A key text most commonly associated with establishing belief in Jesus comes from Romans 10:9-10, which ties belief to salvation.
Repentance
Generally, repentance can mean simply to change the mind or relent. The need for repentance is based on the state of opposition to God in which man finds himself when he sins, which is foundational teaching in Scripture. It is not just a turning away from sin, but a turning toward Christ.
Confession
Confession is a verbal profession of your faith in Jesus Christ as Lord before other people; part of your faith journey into Christ. (Romans 10:9) Our confession is a profession of our faith in Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God; the Savior who died for our sins and was bodily raised from the dead; and the one whom we want to make Lord of our lives.
Baptism
Baptism is the immersion of the sinner (Romans 6:2-6) into the grave of water for the forgiveness of all sins and the gifts of salvation and the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). In the book of Acts, immersion is prominent in the accounts of conversion, or becoming a Christian. At New Day we seek to restore the New Testament purpose for immersion as part of the process of becoming a Christ-follower.
